South By Southwest (SXSW) is a Music, Film, and Interactive festival that takes place in Austin during Spring Break. This year, the festival spans from March 7 - 16, 2014.
The badges for SXSW are crazy expensive, but if you volunteer you 'work' towards earning a badge.
But, there's so many free things to do during SXSW that don't require a badge, you just have to make sure you're aware of how to go about getting into all of the free shows.
It takes planning, but it's worth it.
I'll post an individual blog about ways to find out where all the free shows are, and how to get in, sometime this weekend, so be on the lookout for that!
Today was the first day of SXSW, and through my involvement with Texas Student Television (the television station on the UT Campus) I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a sit-down interview and a red carpet event.
The sit down interview was for The Infinite Man, a movie centered around a scientist who is trying to create the perfect romantic weekend for his girlfriend Lana through time travel. We got to sit down with the Director Hugh Sullivan, and the lead actress Hannah Marshall. They were so nice and welcoming, and the answers to the questions our interviewer asked were absolutely hilarious!
You can check out this, and all other SXSW interviews, through Sneak Peek's YouTube Channel. Sneak Peek is the show on Texas Student Television I was doing press with at SXSW.
After the sit down interview, we had a spot on the red carpet for the premier of Take Care, a comedy about a woman who gets hit by a car and returns home to none of her family and friends wanting to help take care of her, so she resorts to asking her ex-boyfriend for help. The film, written by Liz Tuccillo, stars Leslie Bibb, Thomas Sadoski, Betty Gilpin, Michael Stahl David, Nadia Dajani, Marin Ireland, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Tracee Chimo, Michael Godere.

While waiting for the talent to get to the red carpet premier of Take Care, we spotted Jon Favreau, the director of the SXSW film Chef, at the red carpet next door.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience to get to talk to so many interesting, and successful people. I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to help out with these two events. Although I probably won't do any more press this week, I'll definitely be hunting for free shows and things to do.
SXSW is the Holy Grail for free entertainment. If you're in the Austin area, you should definitely check it out. It's an event you don't want to miss.
